Closed Caption Bridges

The EEG Closed Caption Bridge offers a simple means of maintaining a continuous Line 21 data service when processing of the encoded video signal is required. Two models are offered. The CB411 Closed Caption Bridge is available for use in an analog only environment. The new CB412 Closed Caption Bridge can operate in a mixed Analog / Digital environment.

Caption Offset

Vertical caption position in the Master Video output can be controlled via GPI inputs. This allows broadcasters the ability to re-position captions so they do not interfere with graphics or emergency alert crawls appearing at the top or bottom of the picture.

When the primary GPI input (GPI A) is activated during the presence of an Emergency Message, caption data is automatically remapped to prevent overlay of video lines 212-239 (caption rows 14 and 15). No caption data is lost in this process and caption readability and timing is unaffected.
The secondary GPI input (GPI B) operates similarly except captions are remapped to prevent overlay of video lines 43-70 (caption rows 1 and 2). GPI A and B can be used independently in any combination as required.
Blocks of captioning, i.e. 3 and 4 row captions as well as horizontally and/or vertically split captions, will be processed to maintain their display integrity.

The HD 480 Smart Encoder V can also be used for live caption relocation, as well as providing secure IP delivery of real-time caption data, streaming program audio to a remote captioner and many other features.
About Closed Caption Bridges

The Closed Caption Bridge extracts the Line 21 data from the Source Video Input signal and inserts it into the Master Video Output signal. The data present in both fields are processed simultaneously. A typical installation is shown in the figure below.
