ICAP CONTROL ARRIVES TO EXPAND CAPABILITIES OF INDUSTRY-LEADING IP-BASED REALTIME CAPTIONING SYSTEM FROM EEG

New Monitoring, Security and Administrative Capabilities Evolve iCap Into a Complete Workflow Management Captioning Solution for DTV Broadcasters

NAB2009, BOOTH # SL2805: EEG, the pacesetter for closed captioning solutions, has announced a powerful addition to its iCap IP-based Realtime Captioning System. With the newly released iCap Control, a comprehensive suite of workflow management tools, EEG continues to extend DTV broadcasters far beyond the traditional limitations of previous dialup closed captioning platforms.

With iCap Control, broadcast professionals have a new level of assurance in live captioning, with instant remote notification and scheduled automatic reports. These powerful tools will be available to all iCap users, with minimal configuration and no additional equipment.

A new full-featured suite for 2009, iCap Control provides advanced features for easy-to-use job control, monitoring, and notification. Features of this powerful suite launching at NAB 2009 will include:

  • iCap "My Schedule" function, which will be available through iCap's administrative Website, with an even more intuitive design and enhanced usability. With "My Schedule," broadcasters have a quick interface to set the future live closed captioning schedule. Daily or weekly programs or specials can all be set up with just a few clicks – automatically set the start time for the programming, the end time, and the recurrence pattern!
  • After "My Schedule" has been set up, users can come back any time and check on completion of past jobs. Graphic feedback shows at a glance which jobs were completed, as well as which ones had problems or were not captioned, with links to a detailed description of all logged events.
  • All job reports can be sent to a specified email address on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. In-depth information is always available from these briefs via a link to the central iCap page.
  • And more…

Since its introduction in 2007, iCap has tapped the power of IP connections, cryptographic security, and a robust server-based system, providing network and station engineers with advanced features for easy-to-use job control, monitoring, and notification.
Using iCap's comprehensive central administrative web page, broadcasters can check in and out times for captioners connected to the encoder, check that the encoder itself is online and not experiencing audio or connection problems, and control access to the encoder to a specific group of iCap users. In addition, all audio on iCap is encrypted to fulfill legal obligations for copyrighted material.

"iCap transformed how broadcasters think about closed captioning when we first introduced it at NAB2007," says Philip McLaughlin, President of EEG. "The powerful capabilities of iCap Control have further advanced the industry's foremost IP-based realtime captioning system. With iCap Control, iCap becomes a closed captioning workflow management center that is unmatched in comprehensiveness, ease-of-use, and efficiency."
