IN DEMAND SAFEGUARDS DISTRIBUTION CHANNELS
WITH EEG HD480 SMART ENCODER V
Versatile Closed-Captioning Solution Allows Entertainment Provider to
Streamline CGMS-A Protection for PPV and VOD Programming Delivery
As competition between video content distribution systems continues to intensify, anything that can make Pay-Per-View and Video-On-Demand workflow more efficient is welcome. When it comes to making their assets as secure as possible, leading transactional entertainment provider iN DEMAND looks to the HD480 Smart Encoder V from EEG (www.eegent.com).
"More content than ever before is available at consumers' fingertips, making efficient delivery an imperative for us. With EEG we're extremely confident we can meet the challenges of getting our assets to them first," says RJ Vilardi, Senior Director, VOD Technology for iN DEMAND. "The EEG HD480 has been a key component in allowing us to distribute video as fast and securely as possible, even in light of increased security constraints."
Already familiar with the industry-leading HD and SD closed captioning capabilities of the EEG HD480, iN DEMAND also has two units on line at their Manhattan operations center for another purpose: Copy Generation Management System-Analog (CGMS-A) protection. Since the code that enforces CGMS-A to set-top boxes is also carried on the same CEA-608 data service that is used for closed captioning, the EEG HD480 proved to be a very convenient way for iN DEMAND to protect assets from unauthorized duplication onto VCRs, DVRs or other devices
"Because we had been working with EEG for a long time on closed captioning, we knew that CGMS-A functionality was a great side-benefit of using their equipment," Vilardi explains. "When it comes to developing new solutions, we constantly get great understanding and fast feedback, from the whole team - starting with EEG President Phil McLaughlin and straight down the line."
The HD480 Smart Encoder V is EEG's next-generation digital closed captioning solution, designed with the needs of broadcasters in mind to streamline and integrate the Line 21/HD-VANC encoding process into one powerful box. The HD480 combines closed caption encoding with CGMS-A, XDS (V-chip), and AFD encoding in a compact and robust platform. For real-time captioning applications, all HD480s ship with both iCap IP-based Realtime Captioning software and a dial-up modem
For maintaining its edge in the fast-moving content distribution marketplace, iN DEMAND appreciates being aligned with EEG. "They're known throughout the industry for being thorough," RJ Villardi says. "EEG helps us to keep functioning on a very high level."
