EEG's Revolutionary iCap Realtime IP Caption Link: Making An Impact With HD Broadcasters
Latest Adopter of iCap is WFLX Fox 29 for Seamless Transition to Digital Television Closed Captioning

NAB2008, BOOTH # SL11215:

“The convenience and operational ease of EEG’s iCap is making it the perfect fit for WFLX’s transition to HD.” – Angelo (Butch) Figurella, Chief Engineer,
WFLX Fox 29, West Palm Beach, FL

EEG, the pacesetter for closed captioning solutions, continues to see increased demand for the advanced workflow of iCap. A revolutionary Secure Realtime IP Captioning System, iCap is providing broadcasters and post production facilities with the most efficient path to HD closed captioning.

“Stations and networks transitioning to HD agree: iCap makes closed captioning easier and more intuitive than ever before,” says Philip McLaughlin, President of EEG. “EEG has been a pioneer in closed captioning for over 25 years, and our leadership continues with iCap.”

EEG’s iCap goes far beyond what previous analog-based closed captioning platforms could do, instead tapping the power of IP connections to provide a host of important benefits to broadcast applications. Highlights of iCap include:

Superior Quality Captioning With Lower Delay –In order to achieve high accuracy closed captioning with a minimum of delay in respect to program audio, caption service providers must have access to high quality, low latency program audio. iCap’s IP audio delivery has 2x greater bandwidth than phone line audio couplers, greatly improving dialogue intelligibility. Additionally, iCap’s low audio latency can reduce the delay of captions by as much as 4 seconds as compared to the use of audio from a digitally compressed terrestrial or satellite program feed.

Improved Cost Efficiency – with one Internet connection iCap eliminates the need for costly multiple phone lines and their associated usage charges, or even more expensive satellite equipment.

Enhanced Security – key encryption protects audio and captions every step of the way. Unlike in the open modem system, a secure password is required for every access to an encoder. Additionally, both the broadcast encoder and the captioner can operate iCap from behind firewalls.

Robust Administrative Features – iCap’s built-in administrative system allows broadcasters to monitor, manage and supervise the captioning process far more efficiently than ever before. Account management, password privileges, log-on and log-off, scheduling, communications, visual feedback for remote captioners, troubleshooting and much more is now available.

Universal Software Compatibility – iCap works with existing captioning software on the captioner’s existing PC.

Once a broadcaster installs the versatile, 1RU HD480 Smart Encoder in their rack, and captioners download and install the iCap client onto their Windows PC, the system is in place.

“WFLX Fox 29 is just the latest example of iCap at work,” Philip McLaughlin says. “The efficiency and superior workflow of an IP-based closed captioning solution goes hand-in-hand with today’s HD plants. At EEG, we’re proud to once again be the industry resource for closed captioning that’s ahead of the curve.”
