| The EEG DTV Line 21 Transcoder is designed to upconvert existing EIA-608 Closed Captions into EIA-708 Closed Caption format. EIA-608 caption data is recovered from an NTSC encoded video input, upconverted into EIA-708 captions and output via RS232 or RS422 data port to a DTV Encoder. The Model TE500A DTV Line 21 Transcoder extracts the Line 21 data from a previously encoded NTSC video source and upconverts the 608 data into a serial 708 data stream.
Some important features of the TE500A include:
- Simple to use
- Automatic Two Field upconversion
- Upconverts EIA-608 Closed Caption Data to EIA-708 Closed Caption Data.
- Configurable for either RS232 or RS422 Serial data output.
- Front panel LEDs show presence of Video & Data.
- 708 Data Out Port operates at 19,200 Baud
- Both data ports switchable for RS232 or RS 422 operation
The TE500A outputs three fundamental types of data, NTSC CC field 1 , NTSC CC field 2 and DTVCC (EIA 708) data. These data streams are multiplexed and output to the serial port. If closed captions are present in the NTSC field 1 or field 2 data, these captions are upconverted to DTVCC (EIA 708) format and output.
The TE500A generates a maximum of 9600 BPS of DTVCC data. The data is transmitted at NTSC field rate intervals to facilitate the timely insertion of EIA-608 compatibility data pairs. The TE500A transmits a maximum of 2 bytes of NTSC CC data plus 18 bytes of DTVCC data plus packet overhead in each of the 1/59.97 second intervals.
The Model TE500A DTV Line 21 Transcoder receives an NTSC video signal containing 608 caption data. Line 21 data is extracted from both fields of the video and upconverted into DTVCC (EIA 708) data. The NTSC and DTVCC data are multiplexed and output through the Data Out port to the DTV Video Encoder. The TE500A serial ports are configurable for either RS232 or RS422 serial data.
