TE531 HD Caption Bridge

HDTV/SDTV Closed Caption Bridge
The TE531 is a versatile De-embedding, bridging and upconversion tool for HD closed caption data carried in the HD-SDI VANC. EIA 708B caption data is de-embedded from the SDI and fed to an on-board SMPTE 333M or Grand Alliance format caption server. The output of this caption server is connected to the captioning port of an ATSC encoder for integration in the compressed video stream. Alternatively, captions present on the SDI input can be upconverted. Captioning source is automatically selected between SDI and HD-SDI dependent on the presence of SMPTE 334M captions on the HD source. The TE531 may also be used to bridge caption data from an HD-SDI feed to an SD-SDI feed in EIA 608B (line 21) format to support a down-conversion operation. The TE531 connects seamlessly with all available ATSC Encoders supporting SMPTE 333M or Grand Alliance captioning interface protocols.

Some important features of the TE531 are:

  • EEG's time proven DTV caption upconversion technology ensures the richest HD caption service and widest compatibility with consumer decoders.
  • Caption data can be recovered from HD-SDI signal path and bridged to SD with EIA 608B compliant encoding.
  • Automatic selection of caption data source between SDI and HD-SDI.
  • Direct connection to ATSC encoder serial caption data ports supporting SMPTE 333M and Grand Alliance serial protocols.
  • De-embedded HD VANC caption data or live captions are automatically selected and routed to the ATSC encoder
  • Bypass relay protection on SDI video path.
  • Four independent GPI Control Inputs.
